The bravery in the authentic details of a girl's photo mind

The bravery in the authentic details of a girl's photo mind

This time I want to talk about something a little deeper. We all have our unique lives. We all have this ability to see things in our own lives that are special to us. They may not be special to anyone else, but they are special to us. The way your child sticks his tongue out when reading or the way they ask to get up on your shoulders while you walk. There are so many things that are unique to you. Capturing those details is not the only way to capture...

How to change up your perspective | Family Photography Placerville

Today is the day we talk about perspective! Shooting from different perspectives is really fun and probably one of my favorite things to do. Not only does it help tell your story better (sometimes), it really can help you describe the details you want to tell about your everyday lives. (More on details later this week.) The actual definition per Google on perspective...

How to use light more creatively | Family Documentary Photos Placerville

It's good to have goals right? My goals are very simple. I want a strong business that is thriving based on the idea that people want to have their lives documented. This year, as much as I want to be the one doing the photos- I realize that there are so many more times where I cannot be with you on your daily journey. So another goal this year is to get more

My everyday: No picture Monday | Placerville Documentary Lifestyle Photographs

So as I sit here my kids are watching that movie The Polar Express. Now who with kids has not seen this movie? It is literally mind boggling to me how many times my kids have seen this. One year I tried to hide it in the Christmas boxes so it could only be watched during the correct season. That did not go over well. Did you ever have a movie that you enjoyed so much as a kid that you watched it all year long and multiple times? For me it was Mary Poppins. My mom swears that she didn't hide the movie from me but I know better. She got...

Is scrapbooking a thing anymore?

I LOVE SCRAPBOOKING. Well, I love the concept of scrapbooking. I have many scrapbooks that I have made myself. I have many more scrapbooks that I have been given of my own life growing up. I love looking at them. I mean, I really love it. I love it so much that I used to be a consultant for a scrapbooking company. I am completely Type A about how I treat them and they are on the top of my list for what to take with me in a fire emergency. Looking back on the photos in the books brings me back to an awesome time in my life. Some times...

My everyday: Story Share | Placerville Lifestyle Documentary Photos

So today I was taking my kids to the orthodontist because my son had yet another appointment. On the way down to the appointment I was thinking about how I am glad that we are getting this done before school starts. But then I remembered that it doesn't matter because there will just be another one when school starts! Ugh. I hate the...

My everyday: walking with the dogs | Placerville-Family-Photos

As a family, we love going on "walks". But, as a family, we usually don't have that much free time. Let alone, free time with the actual family! So, on this particular day we enjoyed a nice walk with each other and the dogs. We had to switch dogs every now and then as we are trying to train them on leashes. Being hounds, they are super stubborn so it's not as easy as you would think. We are used to labradors and even though...

My life: everyday

Every day I think to myself, how can I possibly keep up with it all? I mean, there is always so much to do and so much to see. Owning your own business is clearly the best thing and the worst thing all at the same time. Today I am writing with a heavy heart. No one will understand (other than other small business owners) how much work goes into your own business. But in the end it's all worth it because you get to make your own schedule and you are the one that gets to choose who to work with and why. You get to design our business the way you want. The long term benefits outweigh the short term pitfalls. You are never...

So I love where I live. Last year I took some pretty amazing shots of my town- all on my phone mind you. I had such a great time doing it and I think I should do it again! I love this time of year and all the things that are blooming. I love my quant little town of Placerville CA and I wouldn't dare live somewhere else. I hope my life doesn't change this as I move along its path...

My everyday: Camping the coast | Placerville-Everyday-Photographer

So we are getting to that time of year when the need to go outdoors is greater for me. The weather starts to get happy and so do I. This year I decided that I wanted to take all my scouts in my den on a camping trip. They had an achievement to earn and although we could have done it in our back yards, I thought this was much better! I bought some new camping gear and we were all set. I couldn't wait to go. It was literally weeks in the making because we were trying to work around other families and I wanted to make sure that we had the sites booked. But of course I didn't start packing until the day before. You know me! The everlasting procrastinator....

How to be more present with your kids and not social media | Placerville Everyday-Family Photographer

How is it that every time I get some free time I spend it on Facebook or some other social media site? Is it that I am so tired that I need that time to just be in my own moment and actually feel like I am doing nothing and zone out? I choose to believe that but then the activity becomes addicting right? Whether you are a Facebook junkie or twitter fan or pinner of things you inspire to or an Instagram user, you are in my boat. I find that...
