5 on 5 Day in the Life August 2014 | Placerville Children Photographer

"Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

Today was one of those days. I knew it was coming and I had fully prepared myself for it. I was ready. We were going to be busy. It was a day of errand running and doing some of the "not so fun things" about life but in the end it was worth it because the rest of the day was going to be what we had been waiting for! The anticipation was building and I couldn't wait for it...to be over. Let me take you through my day.

First we had to go shoe shopping. It was not something I remembered taking very long in the past. I was wrong. Well, the first store we chose to go to had some "not so quality" options. I had decided in my head that we were NOT going to buy shoes here...but after a bit of convincing my daughter won me over and we ended up buying her a pair of sandals that she just had to have.

After spending too much money at THAT store, we went to a REAL shoe store at our local outlet center. Both kids got a pair of new shoes here too. And no--I do not shop at Saks Fifth Avenue Outlet! Too expensive for my taste! We are a GAP kind of family. New school clothes here we come!

Basically I will just tell you that I was literally running from store to store because I was so afraid that we would be late to our next destination- the eye doctor. Both kids needed check ups on their eyes. Thank goodness all turned out well and no one needs glasses! Phew! But waiting there is always a complete bummer.

Fortunately, our visit there was short and sweet so we go to our next destination a little early. I got to relax a tad in the car. Not for long though as we had to change and meet one of our best friends to go to dance class.

I had to leave my daughter at dance on this day while she was in class. Not to worry- lots of friends and other dance mom's there to watch over her needs while she was awaiting her daddy. Now off to a Cub Scouts meeting. First one of the year! Can't wait to dive into all the new material and learn how to be a better person.

Next was dinner and a "mommy" Cub Scout committee meeting while having dinner at the local pizza joint. Just because we don't have change doesn't mean that we don't have fun at the game room! Back home by 8:45pm. Get ready for bed and for the love of Pete...let's go to sleep. I am bushed...

Thanks for stopping by! I can't wait to share the rest of the circle so head on over to Lori to see what she has to say!

5 on 5 Blog Circle | Yummy Scrumptious Apple Butter | Folsom Family Photographer

Summer has officially taken over and I am in the middle of cooking lots of food and canning lots of jams galore! One of my family's favorite things for me to make is Apple Butter. It tends to be a little bit messy and it takes SO MANY apples to get such a small amount of apple butter but the end result is well worth it!! I love doing this kinda stuff. It makes me just love this season and even though I know I can do this all year round, there is just something about the summer that makes you want to do it more. If anyone is interested in a recipe I can of course oblige but just know that each time I make it, the end result is different because I don't actually do that much measuring. Unlike making actual jam this is not an exact science! IMG_7345

5 on 5 Day in the Life June 2014 | Eldorado Hills Children Photographer

Children are unpredictable. You never know what inconsistency they're going to catch you in next. ~Franklin P. Jones

This quote makes me laugh! Welcome to another episode of my 5 on 5 blog circle! I am so excited today because I have good news to report. My kids are actually getting to spend more time outside! They don't actually like it still but we are working on that! I wish we had more activities for them to play with but in the end I know that is not necessary. My kids need to learn they have imaginations and its ok to use them. My son actually complained the other day that he had no where to sit outside while he was eating his popsicle. I told him that it was ok to sit on he step on the deck. He complained saying that it was dirty. (Disclaimer: It was a little dusty with some pine needles but maybe about two.) I told him he was 9 years old and that it was ok to get a little dirty outside. He still has yet to grasp this concept. Today they are just choosing to read outside. My opinion on it is that at least they are outside getting fresh air while I work. The other day we went to a friend's house for a BBQ. We ate A LOT of food and had a lot of laughs. Kids did a fun activity with their friends (they painted on rocks!). The best night and the most perfect medicine for me! Can't wait for what the rest of the summer brings. If you like my work please contact me to schedule the custom session of your dreams!

5 on 5 Day in the life April 2014 | El Dorado Hills Children Photographer

"You are braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem and smarter than you think." -Christopher Robin (Pooh's Grand Adventure)

I was reading this book to my daughter the other day and it actually made me cry. It may have stemmed from more than the story line but non the less, there I was crying to my daughter as I read this story. It's a story about a boy who goes to school and his friends get scared that he is gone and possibly in trouble so, they go in search of him to help him. Along the way they find things out about themselves that they didn't know about before. Like the old saying goes- God will never give you anything you can't handle. This philosophy has been so engrained in the past seven years of my life that it is kinda the way I live life. What ever happens, happens and I know I can handle it. I always want my kids to feel that way too.

There are a lot of little achievements that happen in a child's life and believe it or not- they can handle them. What we as parents need to do is make sure we understand that they need to do these things to grow and to become better people- not only for themselves but for others. I am not too proud to say this but just yesterday I started forcing my daughter to brush her own teeth! She is 6 years old and just learning how to do this. She has known "how" forever but giving her the power to do it herself is just outstanding. She may not do that great of a job but how could she when she hasn't practiced herself? We went to the doctor the other day and if you know our family history- you know we have been to the doctor's office sooooo many times for various unrelated and seemingly crazy things. My daughter did great. She is always a trooper at the doctor and she doesn't ever seem to be scared or upset. She just gets it done and now that she is old enough we can talk to her about what she is going through so it helps her a lot. One quality that my daughter lacks is bravery. For heavens sake you think this child would be from another world comparing her brother but what I love about her is that once she gains the confidence she will get so excited. She recently was a part of a talent show at her school and as a kindergartener that is a huge accomplishment. We were so proud of her. It was an awesome experience for her to test her fears.

Now lately I have been doing my best to exercise a little more. My problem is that I have this love for food that seems to be unnatural. I can't get enough of the foods I love. It is really hard to stop eating things when it tastes so good!! I have been trying really hard however to do a "couch to 5K" program and do a little more running and hiking and it even makes it better when a friend will come along with me. My dogs are too old to go out and play on the trails anymore so I am glad when I have company. My fitness goals aren't elaborate but I know that when I do get outside I feel so good about myself and so proud of what I have accomplished.

Much like when my daughter is trying something new that makes her happy. It's a win-win! Even if it is a little messy to let her try something new...

So when you least expect it you may surprise yourself. The problem is getting yourself motivated to do something out of your comfort zone. That is the hardest thing for me to do. And just like Winnie the Pooh and his friends- I will always find it in myself what is necessary to move forward and just "get-it-done".  Hopefully there is not a storm brewing in your life but if there is I hope you can do the same thing. Follow your dreams and anything is possible.

Blog Circle 5 on 5 March 2014 | placerville family photographer

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.”― A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

So my son has this stuffed animal. His grandmother gave it to him when he was 9 months old. Back then it was a nice stuffed animal that played music and we put it in his bed every night for him to sleep with. We weren't sure why but as most kids will do- they will attach themselves to that one item that they won't let go of. We called this stuffed animal "Duckie". Now looking back I am not sure why we called it that. Its really hard to say what it is for sure but it's yellow and so hey- it's a duck ok? Flash forward to the present. Duckie has gone through a few transformations. He doesn't have his string anymore to pay music because I cut it off when it stopped working, although the "tail" still remains. Duckie has gotten a new pair of "shoes" and a "nose job" but he is still Duckie. My son is now almost 9 years old and Duckie still sleeps with him and does just about everything else you can imagine. He isn't as "yellow" as he used to be but he is still loved like the first day he was grasped by my son's tiny little hands at 9 months of age. So here's to you Duckie and all those "duckies" out there.

This year marks a few changes for me. I have started doing my favorite thing in the world (outside of taking care of my family) by working on my photography dream full time. I have started a couple blog circles and I have been actively pursuing an official 365 project. So I hope you continue to follow me in my journey while I do these things that I so love to do and am so passionate about. Please continue on with this circle as I am sure you will find the work by Lori very inspiring as well.
