Family Photos On The Farm | Placerville Family Photographer

Back again with a awesome session on a family farm. This family was so much fun to be around and I have to say that I am thankful to call them my friends now! Its been so great getting to know them over the last few months and I hope there are many more to come! I love it when families request the pets to be in the pictures because you never know what you are going to get. I think we did pretty good considering one dog was a little rowdy puppy! Summer can't wait...and neither will I | El Dorado Hills Family Photographer

"To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world." Dr. Seuss

So I was lying on my bed today enjoying a wonderful silence. Don't ask me how I got it with two kids, two cats and a dog in the house with me, but none the less it was there. I almost took a nap it was that lovely. The silence always gets me thinking. Sometimes about good things and sometimes not but today it was more of an introspective kinda thing. Ya know, when you look at your life and decide what is important and what is not? I have been saying this for almost seven months and I will beat it to death if I have to: My family is the most important thing to me. I am trying so hard at this thing called "business" but in the end its not what is important. Don't get me wrong, my clients feel that they are important and I try really hard to make them see my priority is with them at all times. However, my time revolves around my family. That is the way I want it and that is the way it will always be. Period.

At the beginning of the year I attempted a 365 project. For those of you that don't know what that is, it is a project where you take one photo per day for an entire year. It doesn't sound that complicated but in reality it really is. Photographers usually do this when they are trying to break out of a rut, or force them to learn something new or just plain practice more often to get better at this thing we love so much: the world of photography. I got about four months into it when I realized something. Taking a photo a day- which annoyed my family to no end- was not conducive to my life. I couldn't do it. Realizing at 11pm at night that you forgot your photo of the day and getting up to "make something happen" was just not cool. Let me be totally honest when I say that I got lazy about it. I didn't get up most nights once realizing this because I new that what I came up with wouldn't be good at all. I told myself I would just take two photos the next day. That worked for a while until I realized that I just wasn't into it. I will regret it at the end of the year once I see all the lovely talented ladies in my 365 group pumping out lovely work- and they are doing it daily. So instead of beating myself up about quitting, I decided that I would just take photos of my life when I sparked an interest. Taking the pressure off myself to take a photo a day really helped me. Now I can take multiple per day when I want to and not feel the need to do that every day. Here are some of the ones I have captured so far on this road we call "summer life". Forgive me for my son doesn't happen to be in any of these. He must not like my camera very much. But at age nine, what boy does?

This summer is going by way to fast but I am enjoying every minute of it. We are making the most of it here in our house! Being that this is the first full summer I will have ever spent with my kids on a day to day basis, I think we are doing pretty good.

Sweetest Maternity Session Upcoming Baby Girl | El Dorado Hills Family Photographer

I am trying to get caught up today! I am so excited to say that a while back I was the photographer for my sweetest oldest niece at the best time! When a woman is expecting they really do glow and look like the posture child for happiness. We had not seen each other in quite a while so we were able to catch up and I got to spend time with her new husband and I have to say - she chose well. Not only is he proving to be the sweetest husband, but I know he will prove to be the best dad. I can't wait to share these beautiful photos as they start this new venture in their lives. It was do hard to choose from my favorites as there were so many. Sweetest Maternity Session Upcoming Baby Girl | El Dorado Hills Family Photographer

5 on 5 Day in the life April 2014 | El Dorado Hills Children Photographer

"You are braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem and smarter than you think." -Christopher Robin (Pooh's Grand Adventure)

I was reading this book to my daughter the other day and it actually made me cry. It may have stemmed from more than the story line but non the less, there I was crying to my daughter as I read this story. It's a story about a boy who goes to school and his friends get scared that he is gone and possibly in trouble so, they go in search of him to help him. Along the way they find things out about themselves that they didn't know about before. Like the old saying goes- God will never give you anything you can't handle. This philosophy has been so engrained in the past seven years of my life that it is kinda the way I live life. What ever happens, happens and I know I can handle it. I always want my kids to feel that way too.

family child photography | family children photographer El Dorado Hills

There are a lot of little achievements that happen in a child's life and believe it or not- they can handle them. What we as parents need to do is make sure we understand that they need to do these things to grow and to become better people- not only for themselves but for others. I am not too proud to say this but just yesterday I started forcing my daughter to brush her own teeth! She is 6 years old and just learning how to do this. She has known "how" forever but giving her the power to do it herself is just outstanding. She may not do that great of a job but how could she when she hasn't practiced herself? We went to the doctor the other day and if you know our family history- you know we have been to the doctor's office sooooo many times for various unrelated and seemingly crazy things. My daughter did great. She is always a trooper at the doctor and she doesn't ever seem to be scared or upset. She just gets it done and now that she is old enough we can talk to her about what she is going through so it helps her a lot. One quality that my daughter lacks is bravery. For heavens sake you think this child would be from another world comparing her brother but what I love about her is that once she gains the confidence she will get so excited. She recently was a part of a talent show at her school and as a kindergartener that is a huge accomplishment. We were so proud of her. It was an awesome experience for her to test her fears.

Now lately I have been doing my best to exercise a little more. My problem is that I have this love for food that seems to be unnatural. I can't get enough of the foods I love. It is really hard to stop eating things when it tastes so good!! I have been trying really hard however to do a "couch to 5K" program and do a little more running and hiking and it even makes it better when a friend will come along with me. My dogs are too old to go out and play on the trails anymore so I am glad when I have company. My fitness goals aren't elaborate but I know that when I do get outside I feel so good about myself and so proud of what I have accomplished.

family child photography | family children photographer Folsom

Much like when my daughter is trying something new that makes her happy. It's a win-win! Even if it is a little messy to let her try something new...

family child photography | family children photographer Folsom

So when you least expect it you may surprise yourself. The problem is getting yourself motivated to do something out of your comfort zone. That is the hardest thing for me to do. And just like Winnie the Pooh and his friends- I will always find it in myself what is necessary to move forward and just "get-it-done".  Hopefully there is not a storm brewing in your life but if there is I hope you can do the same thing. Follow your dreams and anything is possible.

My Kids Were Here January 2014 | placerville family photographer

“I suppose it's like the ticking crocodile, isn't it? Time is chasing after all of us.”― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

Time is chasing us. They are getting older. The slight remembrances of your own youth. Are they good memories? Do you aspire to have your children be as happy as you once were? We have this problem nowadays that we try to make our kids grow up faster than they need to. Its not really our fault. The media has made us think that our kids need to be smarter than the next kid and - oh yeah - at a younger age. We buy into it because its easy to believe that your kids can have more than what you had and they will be able to go farther in life than you did. They will get that Master's degree in some really smart topic in school and you will be very proud because they made it farther than you. (Of course this is assuming that you have not done those miraculous things- as much of us have not…but I digress.) Although there is nothing wrong with wanting more for your kids than you had, it causes a problem. Children these days are losing their youth.

My Kids Were Here January 2014 | placerville family photographer

I blame myself for my kids not acting like "kids". I don't force them to go outside. I always make them do things they don't want to do just because it will make my life easier. It is a never-ending cycle. I get so mad when my kids leave things on the floor and when they don't pick up after themselves. But one day I realized that it doesn't matter. All that stuff will get done eventually. All they want is to be loved and have fun. Everything else will follow.

"But sometimes a person we love through no fault of his own, can't see past the end of his nose." Mary Poppins

Don't let this be you. Let your kids be kids and let them experience life as it is now and not as you wish it to be for them later. My goal of 2014 is to focus on the now. Focus on my kids and focus on their (and my) happiness. Its a funny thing when you look at your life from above. You see things that maybe you weren't able to see before. I suggest you try it. Try acting more like a child and let them have fun…with you. Thats the important part. That is what they want the most. So as I understand the importance of doing the laundry and picking up after your kids and making sure they do their homework- understand that life happens and you don't want to be the one caught up in the future only to realize you've missed the past.

My Kids Were Here January 2014 | placerville family photographer

So this blog post (and some future ones this year) will be dedicated to my kids and the fact that I realize there was a time that they "were here". Lets celebrate it. Don't look forward for it to be over. Don't lose sight of who they are now and most importantly don't ever ask them to change.

If you like reading about "my kids were here" and you want more please follow along. My dear new friend Andrea will explain this topic in her own words. It will be an amazing read I guarantee. Continue on in the blog circle until you reach me again. Have some fun while you are surfing the web. Don't be so serious.

So I am in a blog circle | placerville family photographer

Well this year is all about changes and new opportunities. I am starting off a new life in a way. I have two beautiful children and I have a wonderful supportive husband and I just can't say enough how happy I am that I live where I live and I have the friends I have. That all being said I am also starting on a new stressful journey. I actually quit my job the other day to begin a new journey in photography full time. Many things have contributed to helping me make this decision however the most important of all of them are my kids. They have driven me to want to be with them more often and take care of them more efficiently and I just can't do that to the best of my ability without being home. Because I worked a full time job that took me into the night time hours and I was also spending time doing photography on the side, I never had time to officially be comfortable with how I was treating my kids. So now I can begin a new story about not just life around here with new changes but also life around my kids! I am very truly excited to be starting this wonderful venture and I can't wait to share it all with you! My kids mean everything to me and as I often tell them, "Everything I do, I do for you". Corny I know, but they get my point. That time that I came home late from work and wasn't able to say goodnight or that time I yelled at them because I was so stressed and overwhelmed with a due date for my favorite job (photography) that I snapped. Come on, we all have those moments when you are stressed and overwhelmed. My husband never seems happy with the house wife that I am and unfortunately I just don't have it in me to be that "super-mom". Well times are about to change.

One of my many goals this year was to join a blog circle. What is a blog circle you ask? A blog circle is a blog where you always reference another photographer and there are only so many of us in the circle so eventually it will get back around to me. We all share talking about the same thing. This blog circle is supposed to be still life photographs about my kids. Photos that say my "kids were here". Now at first I was not really very excited about this theme to tell you the truth! After I signed up all I could envision were photos of my dirty house! But now the more I think about it the more I am excited to show my kids personalities without showing my kids. This is surely a new direction for me and something I have never tried before so I hope you enjoy as I begin this new journey of blogging and trying out my new lifestyle…as a photographer.
